Eating is an everyday gesture, but also a political, social, and environmental act.
Behind every food choice lies a system of contradictions: food that nourishes and yet makes us ill, that is abundant but does not reach everyone, that creates value but often exploits labour and land.

These issues will be at the centre of “UNSUSTAINABLE FOOD. Contradictions on the Plate, Possible Balances,” the new festival promoted by the University of Milano-Bicocca and the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation, scheduled for Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November 2025 at Viale Pasubio 5, Milan.

Two days of talks, meetings, exhibitions, and screenings to examine the global food system through a critical, multidisciplinary lens, intertwining research, social practices, and voices from the worlds of labour and activism.

The initiative is part of ONFOODS – Research and Innovation Network on Food and Nutrition Sustainability, Safety and Security, a partnership funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) with the support of the European Commission, aimed at developing more sustainable food models.

Participants include: Raffaela Baiocchi, Floriana Bulfon, Giovanni Caimi, Fabio Ciconte, Marco Clementi, Giorgio Dell’Oro, Lisa Di Giuseppe, Andrea Magarini, Roberto La Pira, Marco Lucchini, Luca Martinelli, Alberto Grandi, Luca Mocarelli, Sofia Nardacchione, Marco Omizzolo, Stefania Prandi, Laura Prosperi, Lorenza Maria Sganzetta, Claudia Sorlini, Martino Tognocchi, Maria Tornielli, Sandra Valente.
