On Tuesday, March 19th, from 5 p.m., at the San Tommaso Auditorium, University of Pavia, the second meeting of the Public Program of the PNRR OnFoods project, in collaboration with the Department of Humanities, will be held. A dialogue between the director of the Food Policy Area of the City of Milan, Andrea Magarini, MD, and researcher Maria Vittoria Conti (Department of Public Health, Experimental and Forensic Medicine, University of Pavia). Admission is free with prior reservation via email: auditorium@unipv.it.
Andrea Magarini and Maria Vittoria Conti

The format adopted in the seminar series curated by Stefano Conca Bonizzoni and Elisabetta Modena is that of a dialogue between the realms of research, art, and public communication: researchers, representatives of institutions, and experts in behaviour, policies, and education on sustainable food and food waste engage with artists, filmmakers, and creatives who have centred their expressive work on these themes.

The programme aims to stimulate citizen science actions through the active involvement of citizens, promoting initiatives to disseminate new knowledge in the context of food sustainability and waste prevention.

The session with Andrea Magarini, coordinator of the Milan Food Policy Area, will be preceded by a screening of 'SeaSpiracy' (2021), one of the most discussed documentaries on fish sustainability and the fish market. Director Ali Tabrizi, passionate about ocean life, questions global economic systems to reconsider consumers' eating habits, exposing the alarming corruption behind this market.

The experience of Magarini, who is responsible for strategic planning processes for institutional governance with a focus on urban food policies, sustainability and international relations, will be juxtaposed with the research activities of Maria Vittoria Conti, a food science specialist and researcher at the Laboratory of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition, Department of Public Health, Experimental and Forensic Medicine, University of Pavia.

Between politics and science, the actions of food policies in the national and international scenarios will be discussed to understand how they integrate into the daily lives of individuals, what impact they have on food choices and the health of individuals, and their sustainability.
