OnFoods is participating in the 60th SIDEA Conference, Italian Society of Agricultural Economics, currently taking place in Anacapri (NA) and set to conclude today, Tuesday 17th September. For the occasion, a joint session was organised between Spoke 1 and Spoke 7, coordinated by Matteo Masotti (UNIBO), Patrizia Borsotto (CREA-PB), Giampiero Mazzocchi (CREA-PB) and Matteo Vittuari (UNIBO).

The title of this year's SIDEA Conference is: 'From the farm-to-fork strategy to the one-health approach: solutions for the European agricultural model in light of new economic scenarios.'

Spoke 1, “Global Sustainability,” and Spoke 7, “Policy, Behaviour, and Education,” shared their research insights during this important forum, fostering discussions that may lead to new collaborations.

The session explored the role, objectives, and tools characterising food policies. The discussions focused on:

  • the importance of food policies in mitigating exogenous shocks, such as inflation, which can restrict access to healthy and sustainable food products;
  • the development of new governance models aimed at systematising and integrating diverse local food policy goals: widespread access to quality food, reduction of food waste, and promotion of healthy and sustainable diets;
  • the examination of behavioural interventions to enhance access to nutritious and sustainable foods and/or reduce food waste in various contexts, including collective catering and households;
  • initiatives to support the right to food and ensure food security for vulnerable social groups.
