In response to the growing emphasis on environmental sustainability and health, the "M.U.S.A. - Progettare mense universitarie sane, sostenibili e accessibili" challenge invites university students from Bologna and Parma to propose innovative solutions for enhancing university catering services.

This initiative is part of the PARCA project, funded by PNRR OnFoods, aiming to co-design solutions that promote healthier, more sustainable, and socially inclusive university canteens.

The activity is co-organized by the Department of Agriculture and Food Sciences (University of Bologna), the Department of Psychology (University of Bologna), and the Department of Food and Drug (University of Parma), with the support of the Regional Authority for the Right to Study (ER.GO - Azienda regionale per il Diritto agli Studi Superiori dell'Emilia Romagna).

How does the challenge work?

Students are encouraged to form multidisciplinary groups to develop proposals that address key themes such as environmental sustainability, economic accessibility, food quality, and social inclusion.

Registrations for the challenge are open for both formed groups and individuals. If you wish to participate and do not yet have a group, fill the form for individual registration and the organizers will place you in a group.

The challenge will also include seminars and workshops focused on food sustainability, equipping participants with the necessary skills to create impactful solutions. Winning ideas will be recognized for their innovation and feasibility, contributing to the transformation of university canteens into more sustainable and inclusive spaces.

The goal of the Challenge is to offer a training path, build a network of professional contacts, and provide the opportunity to rethink the catering services offered in the university canteens of Bologna and Parma. The winning teams will be awarded prepaid cards to use in the canteens of the multi campuses of the University of Bologna and Parma.

Registrations are open until November 7th 2024. Activities will run from November, 11th 2024 to February, 16th 2025. Below are the links for the registration forms. Individual registration is for individuals who want to participate but don't have a pre-formed group. Team registration is for pre-formed groups.
