On Friday, July 14th, OnFoods' Spoke 04 will gather at the University of Milan for a one-day meeting. The event aims to provide updates on the progress of Spoke's activities and create an opportunity for participants to engage in discussions and networking.

The event will start with opening remarks from Patrizia Riso, the coordinator of Spoke 04, Paolo Cortesi, Director of DeFENS at the University of Milan, and Daniele Del Rio, President of the OnFoods Foundation. The agenda for the day will cover a wide range of topics, starting with an overview of Spoke 04's research activities and discussions on the future directions of the working group. Furthermore, the importance of the Cascade Calls initiative will be highlighted, and the launch of the Spoke 04 Young Researchers Network will be announced. This event promises to be an extraordinary opportunity to explore the progress made in the research activities of Spoke 04 "Food Quality and Nutrition."

The Spoke 4 event held today at the University of Milan was a great success and I am really proud of the multidisciplinary team represented by 100 very active and enthusiastic researchers and very pleased with the progress in the research activities developed within the Food Quality and Nutrition area. All the 86 operational projects are proceeding very well and I am sure that we will achieve important results.

Spoke 04

Background and Context

The Spoke 04 overarching goal is to improve the quality and nutrition of food, addressing the needs of modern consumers through food reformulation, the adoption of innovative and sustainable technologies, and the design of new food options. The aim is to promote population health and well-being, while also considering emerging interindividual differences that drive the revolution of personalized nutrition.

To achieve these objectives, the research projects of Spoke 04 will analyze various scenarios. This includes examining the adequacy and sustainability of food consumption in different target populations, addressing the nutritional needs of specific communities and groups, understanding new consumer behavior trends, assessing the level of technological innovation in food production and processing, and evaluating the availability of food products and services for consumers.

The activities of Spoke 04, focused on "Food Quality and Nutrition," align with the Global Goals of the 2030 Agenda. These goals include combating hunger (Goal 2), promoting health and well-being (Goal 3), investing in industries, innovation, and infrastructure (Goal 9), developing sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11), and promoting responsible consumption and production (Goal 12).
