Nutrition in the third millennium is proving to be crucial from multiple perspectives, requiring in-depth understanding and appreciation based on the testimony of qualified experts. It is important to defend it against the media pitfalls that often spread information without scientific foundations. Only through this awareness can nutrition fully play its role in both disease prevention and treatment. In this context, the National Congress of the Italian Society of Human Nutrition (SINU) stands out as a significant event that aims to promote the growth of knowledge in the field of nutrition. In its 2023 edition, the SINU National Congress will highlight highly relevant topics, providing an opportunity for learning and discussion.
SINU 2023 represents an important milestone in the field of nutritional sciences.
The congress aims to interpret the importance of nutrition through the growth of knowledge. It will address topics of great relevance, ranging from the well-established role of the Mediterranean diet in prevention and therapy to the new frontiers of nutrition. There will also be a special focus on the sustainability of diets for both humans and the planet, including issues related to consumption and waste. The congress will also delve into nutrition in the elderly and chronic inflammatory diseases, while not neglecting the growing evidence of the interaction between diet and the microbiota.
The SINU 2023 Congress will have the honor of hosting two exceptional speakers.
The Inaugural Lecture will be delivered by Alberto Ascherio, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston. Professor Ascherio will focus on the role of diet in the epidemiology of neurodegenerative diseases, providing valuable insights into this delicate field. In the closing lecture, the "Gianni Barba" Lecture will be entrusted to Dr. Maria Isabel Medina Mendez, an illustrious professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Vigo, Spain. Dr. Medina Mendez will address the impact of marine-origin fats on inflammatory and oxidative phenotypes, shedding further light on this topic of great scientific interest.
On Thursday, June 8th, in Hall A, there will be a focus on the specificities of the national project OnFoods, featuring a presentation by the director of the Foundation, Prof. Daniele Del Rio. The session will be moderated by Anna Tagliabue and is scheduled for 11:15-11:45 AM.
