  3. Mentorship programme

OnFoods invested in strengthening the professional development of early career scientists across its seven Spokes.

Over 100 young researchers, including RTDAs, postdoctoral fellows and PhD candidates, participated in the Mentorship Programme, conceived as a bottom-up initiative coordinated by Early Career Scientists (ECS) representatives within each Spoke. The activities combined scientific specialisation with transversal competences such as project management, scientific communication and grant proposal development.

Rather than functioning as a traditional hierarchical mentoring scheme, the programme promoted peer exchange and transdisciplinary collaboration. By encouraging structured interaction across institutions and research domains, it contributed to strengthening internal networks and fostering long-term professional connections within the national research ecosystem.

The initiative also supported dialogue between academia and industry, reinforcing the programme’s broader objective of integrating scientific training with applied research contexts.

ECS Representatives

Each Spoke identified ECS representatives responsible for facilitating communication and organising training activities tailored to emerging researchers’ needs. This approach supported participatory training formats and collaborative knowledge construction across institutions.
